Leon Hempel, PhD, is Senior Researcher at the Centre for Technology and Society (CTS) at the Technical University Berlin where he is leading the research unit security – risk – privacy. For over ten years he has focussed on empirical studies of diverse security and surveillance technologies to assess their effectiveness as well as their social, political and ethical implications.
He investigates the security culture and vulnerabilities of different critical infrastructures regarding manipulation, sabotage and other interferences of ICTs. Furthermore, Hempel leads the interdisciplinary research network ‘human technology lab’ at the CTS, which focuses on the cooperation of social scientists and engineers in the context of human centered technology design.
