Jeff Deutch holds a Master of Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance (Berlin, Germany) and a BA in Critical Social Inquiry from Hampshire College (Amherst, USA). His research interests include issues of data politics, privacy, and digital security as they pertain to marginalisation and social exclusion.
In addition to consulting organisations on these issues, he has worked as a programme researcher with the Tactical Technology Collective, as a research assistant with Civic Consulting, and as a core organiser with Milk Not Jails.
At CIHR, Jeff plans to pursue research related the categorical framing of demographic data and its relation to identity formation. He will additionally be pursuing work with the Syrian Archive project to develop a methodological toolkit for human rights defenders on using video databases as empirical evidence.
