Douwe Korff is a Dutch comparative and international lawyer, and a specialist in human rights and data protection. Following academic research at the European University Institute and at the Max Planck Institutes for comparative and international criminal- and public law as well as head of European research at Amnesty International, he taught at the University of Maastricht and at the University of Essex. From 2002 until May 2014, he was professor of international law at London Metropolitan University and is still a visiting professor at the Universities of Zagreb and Rijeka in Croatia.

He has carried out many studies into data protection issues for the EU and the Council of Europe and has trained judges, prosecutors and others in international human rights law in Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Balkans and the Baltics. He has also taken several cases to the European Court of Human Rights including the leading case on lethal use of force by law enforcement agents, McCann v. the UK (the “Gibraltar Shooting Case”).
